california tourist: san francisco.

September 1, 2012

The other day I was talking to my coworkers (newsflash: I have a job…teaching ESL part time…more on that later perhaps) about different places in California. One of them said, “How long have you lived here? You’ve been, like, everywhere!”

What can I say? I love to explore, and so does my partner in crime (aka Colby).

Our last trip of the summer was up north, to first visit my sister and her husband in their new city of residence. After that, we took a leisurely drive down the coast–including the incredible and totally not overrated Big Sur. We stayed in Carmel and SLO and Santa Maria on the way down.

More on that drive down in a future post. In this one, I want to focus on a city that I’ve wanted to visit for years.

We experienced a quintessential San Francisco day: gray and chilly. I kind of loved it, considering that sometimes our weather here is just a little too predictable (I know, I know, I have nothing to complain about). We spent the day exploring, wandering, and taking it all in.

cheerful boats near the fisherman’s wharf

alcatraz…shrouded in mystery!

some cool houses and a cool couple (har har har) near haight ashbury

newlywed cuties in front of the barely-visible golden gate bridge

lombard street…so weird. also weird that we waited in line for like 30 minutes to drive down this

the old hippie haunt

bomb.com flaming soup at Lers Ros–an incredible Thai restaurant

It’s so nice to have my sister living in the same state as me. :) We can’t wait for our next visit up or their next visit down here.

I love seeing your sister relationship as adults. I just read First they killed my father by Loung Ung, about a woman’s story in 1970’s Cambodia. She also talked a lot about her sister. I highly recommend it!

This is great! It brings back memories. We were at all those places. Be sure to take a tour of Alcatraz & use the headphones,,The first time there I did it without & the second with. It was so much informative with them.

I love your photos too. I miss your smiling face!

You & Colby have had an exciting summer! Are you too busy now with more to keep you occupied to continue for all your fun excursions?

    Love,
