the eating project: month eleven.

June 14, 2012

I can’t believe we made it! A whole almost year of eating at ethnic restaurants in Orange County (well, and one in San Diego).  I’m proud. We really accomplished something. Ha. FOOD!

I’m not gonna lie. Sometimes you feel like going out and finding a new and exciting restaurant…and other times you want to just order from a nearby reliable place, pick it up, and eat it in the comfort of your living room, while watching Modern Family. That’s exactly what we did.

I yelped it (PTL for yelp, right?) and found this little gem in nearby Anaheim, just up the street between us and Disneyland. Perfect location. We called and placed the order, and the lady told me it would be ready in 15 minutes. I basically just got in the car, drove there, and it was waiting for me. Excellent.

Extra points for the adorable sign and decor inside (not pictured). Also extra points for how pumped the lady working was about me coming in. Our conversation went something like this (imagine her talking super enthusiastically):

Her: Welcome!!!!
Me: Thank you!
Her: For pickup?
Me: Yes…
Her: Okay! What did you order? (despite the fact that there was no one in the restaurant and only one bag there for pickup..I thought it was pretty safe to say that it was for me.)
Me: 3 pad Thai and a chicken satay
Her: Okay! Thank you for coming! I think you live far away!
Me: Um, not really, I live in Fullerton, just down the road about 10 minutes.
Her: Ohhhh! I think that’s far!!! Thank you for coming!
Me: You’re welcome…I saw that your restaurant had really good reviews online.
Her: Ohhh!! Thank you!!!

Our awesome friend Bee was visiting us from Arizona! It’s so fun that we’ve gotten to do three out of eleven months of the Eating Project with friends from the World Race. Brittany and I reminisced about the pad Thai that we got in Thailand that cost 30 baht…aka one dollar. ONE. DOLLAR. Amazing. We also reminisced about how we ate so much cheesecake that month, but that’s another story.

I’m not gonna lie, all three of us ordered pad Thai. I know, I know, there’s more to Thai food than pad Thai, but it’s so DANG good that it’s hard for me to order anything else. This didn’t disappoint. You know what else didn’t disappoint? The PEANUT SAUCE that went along with the chicken satay. I am in love with peanut sauce. I could drink it straight.

I foresee us returning to this little nugget of joy in the future.

Malu and I had a similar experience with a Korean restaurant near Biola. We knew it was authentic when we saw barley in the white rice. The proprietor told us it was healthier that way. She also refused to make anything with beef. Not healthy, she said!
